Pick of the Week #665 – Young Justice #1
January 20, 2019 7:13 pm Hey guys, there is one notable example of a full issue redraw I can think of. When GiJoe from Marvel was cancelled, mail delivery subscription ended at issue #155. If you were (like I was) a subscriber by mail and you still had issues left to fulfill your order, you got GiJoe Special #1. This was published two months after the last issue was released. It reprints issue #61 of the regular comic, but with artwork originally created by Todd McFarlane but replaced before publication. The artwork is HORRIBLE. It was some of Todd's earliest Marvel work and they started seeing the pages coming in and got another artist to draw it in time for print. I still have mine. Here is a lot more about that including some of the pages.

Special Edition – Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse
December 15, 2018 6:17 am I looked up the Peni Parker character. I DO remember her now, she was in a robot suit in a more realistic style of manga, based VERY heavily on Neon Genesis Evangelion. Unless there are further versions they just switched her style of manga for this film and dropped all the Eva-references. I think that the radiated spider lives in the SP//DR suit and whoever it bites is then connected to the robot, and her father was the prior pilot.
I don't believe we saw EITHER primary Peter Parker in this film. Teenage Ultimate Peter was absent and replaced with the "perfect" / idealized Parker (with shades of Batman and Iron Man thrown in) and the Peter I expected to be "OUR" Peter seems like a new character... but I have a theory! I believe in future episodes they will be able to show that he has remarried Mary Jane and they have grown old together, with Mayday Parker being a viable crossover character. He's Mayday's dad, the Peter of Earth X and MC2, since Marvel has left the MC2 "future" in the dust and "OUR" Peter isn't the father of any kids anymore.
Gwen was super cute and interesting. Spider-Ham was not too heavy but he was pushing it, Noir was actually funny which I didn't expect. Yeah, they made a terrifying Prowler and he scared me a little a few times, this is like, peak Prowler.

Pick of the Week #620 – Rock Candy Mountain #8
February 22, 2018 2:26 am I remember Monseiur Mallah and the Brain being kind of in love in the 80s when I was a kid. Maybe there wasn't a steep context to it or anything, but there was something going on there back then as my childhood memories suggest.

Booksplode #22 – The Other Side: Special Edition
November 23, 2017 10:03 am I don't think I ever finished reading this, but it was pretty stellar. Maybe it's time to revisit it.

Special Edition – Justice League
November 21, 2017 6:08 pm The Green Lantern in the movie is Yalan Gur. He's super obscure, to the point that I didn't remember his name. He's the ancient Green Lantern associated with the Starheart which is associated with Alan Scott. They went DEEEEEP on that one.

Special Edition – Marvel’s Inhumans and The Gifted
October 5, 2017 5:44 pm Andreas von Strucker and Andrea von Strucker in comics are the Fenris / Strucker Twins. They have kind of bothersome Wonder Twin powers. I assume Andy a direct reference to Andreas and Lauren's name was chosen so they wouldn't be named silly names which are almost the same! Reed Strucker I guess could be seen as a stand in for Baron Wolfgang von Strucker but... did they even really have a family relations dynamic in the comics? I never saw them as a family, anyway, just as "the next generation Hydra who are also mutants." Age of Ultron in the MCU kind of merged the Magneto siblings' origin with the Strucker twins origin. None of it matters.
